A Perfect Day

I read a book by that same title once and I always contemplated what my "perfect" day would be. I think I finally figured it out. I woke up at my usual time of 5:30am on Saturday morning, but luckily I was able to force myself back to sleep. When I woke up again, I was shocked to see that my clock said 7:38am. And my son was still asleep!! How in the world did that happen??

Anyways, we were all up by 8:00 and took our time eating breakfast and just enjoying each other. Nate left for a quick run, while I wrangled Grayson into clothes and somehow managed to get myself showered. We left the house a little after 10 and headed "downtown." We made a quick stop to order Grayson's b-day cake, which I am very anxious to see next Saturday. From there we headed to the local Farmer's Market. We didn't have any real need for anything, but it's such a fun place to be on a Saturday morning. We walked the aisles and stopped to listen to a husband/wife team play the guitar and sing some catchy tunes. I think Grayson would have stayed and listened forever. He is so into music and guitars.

By the time we were done listening to the music our stomachs were rumbling. We decided to walk to Chipotle for a quick bite so that we could continue to enjoy the beautiful weather and the contagious downtown atmosphere. Lunch was delicious and Grayson was so good and funny. He is such a character these days and will do just about anything to get a laugh out of you, so it was a very enjoyable lunch.

We headed back home after that and just relaxed and enjoyed the afternoon. I even dozed on the couch while Nate handled Gray's dinner (I'm turning into such a slacker now that Gray is "daddy's boy!"). We finished the evening with a walk to check out the puppies and "diggers," Grayson's newest obsession, in our neighborhood, followed by a bath and reading books together in our bed.

So like I said, I finally figured out what my perfect day would entail. My only question is why has it taken me so long to figure out that the perfect day just means slowing down and enjoying the sunshine and cool breezes with my two favorite guys? Life should always be this simple.

What a fabulous day you had! Those are my favorite days, too. No big plans, no hurry to get anywhere, just relaxing and enjoying being together. Here's to thousands more days like that!!!
